The writing feels more distant from the action and characters than I am used to. It is stylized or maybe striving for poetic. Could the author be trying to emulate the Homer in a modern novel?

The many references to classic books and even the one to a writer after a World War is an integrating decision. The pokes of Dr Reader and that many readers identify with characters is cerebral.

The setting is Hamilton Ontario.

Classic domestic abuse behaviours. Red flags abound.

When is 29, not an adult, or robbing the cradle. The last time I checked, that was definitely adult territory.

I am finding it difficult to jump between characters. The jumps between characters are abrupt.
I don't usually read chapter headings, but those are not providing insight this time anyway.

I read The Red Famine a couple of years ago. The descriptions in this book remind me of the horrors visited on the Ukrainian people.

This story has fits and starts. It is obvious at times and sometimes insightful. I am not sure where this story can go from here or if Iameven interested in knowing. This is for IRL book club, so I will try to finish.

75% of the characters have been killed off. The last 25% are annoying. This may not be with continuing.

I know the answer to the mystery but will finish out the book. I like the world building.

So far, there has been little about the trail. It has more similarities to a Dickenss novel with its meandering than a modern one. I am not as tolerant of a current author writing in that style.

When 5th Graders are wearing tokes, the audio editor should notice something might be wrong. How many 5th Graders would be encouraged to smoke weed in an elementary school classroom? Or wear a hat made out of it?

Claire's story is so painful.

I am not sure about this book. It has the tone of a conspiracy theorist. I am going to read some more before deciding, though.

Do you ever get to that point in the story when you think you know how it is going to end and you don't want it to end that way? I am afraid this book is going to end badly and don't want to finish it.

Please don't let this end the way it seems to be going.

The first two stories were good. Snakes Born in the Dark is really good.

I like how the author provides an analysis of how people react to learning of a loved ones death.

This book was published in 1964. It is interesting that a bad climate is cited as a reason to explore space, even in passing.

Ruler of the Winds and Sand - this is a very satisfying story

Homw Sweet Home - I loved this one.

I like the little nods to the conglomerates of our time, the extension of technologies of this time, and how those of different economic backgrounds will use them.

There are little flashes of Ready Player One in the world building, without the 80's gaming references. It would be difficult to get away from that, though, as it is a natural progression of our current culture. South Korea is a good setting choice.
