There are many characters in this book, which gets a little confusing. Also, when the world is about to end, I'm not as interested in the events on a single cruise ship compared to the events in, let's say, California. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I like how often the writer reminds the reader of background and characters' dispositions. I oftentimes read when I'm sleepy, so I need a little help to keep abreast of what is going on.

It is sad that some people are such haters. I have asked myself over and over again why people put up with others who are evil.

Though the book is well-written, author often reminds me of how ignorant I am by alluding to lots of people and things I've never heard of. Plus, the story isn't that compelling to me.

I'm not sure how auto-biographical this story is, but it all seems a bit far-fetched for a seven year old boy. An evil mother who locks a child outside, letting him get beat up constantly by the neighborhood hoodlums. And also suspect is weight training for a seven year old. Really?

A book thick with allusion and metaphor--I have to read and reread to make sure I get it (and sometimes I don't). As it jumps back and forth in time and place, it's even harder to follow. Makes me think I'm too dumb for this book.
