Not the best young-adult book I've read. The overarching idea of a fantasy world as tourist destination is interesting, there are nice aspects to the magic system, and the animals are fun - who doesn't like talking animals?. However, it's at the same time overcomplicated and oversimplified - the plot devices are obvious, but there are way too many thing going on. The resolutions tend to be Deus ex Machina.
