Mr. Hawking is found in the top floor of a department store. Motionless, and unresponsive. Mr. hawking was taken to a hospital nearby with severe injuries to his head.

Carver finds out that Mr. Tudd was only ok with Carver because he was suspicious his father was the library killer. Carver is looking for Mr. Hawking one night when he finds out the the insane asylum is treating their residents every four hours, which he presumed as an intruder.

Carver is being held prisoner under a sewer, in New York. He stole a key device that changed shapes, and he made pistols go off in the lab. Everyone in the lab was looking for him, and two of the younger guys that worked there locked him up in a storage closet.

Delia found out that Commissioner Roosevelt received a letter from an unknown subject through the Times Newspaper. It said, 'Dear Boss, Me again.' Carver thinks it was his father, and also the library killer.

Carver is talking to Delia and is explaining to her how he can't tell her anything about his detective work. Although he did explain to her that he was a detective in training.

Carver was being followed by a "dark figure". He just saw his first dead body working as a detective.
