5 stars! Sci-fi fantasy journey.

The cast of characters - mythical animals and Earth escapees, bitter brothers and young lovers, worried fathers and greedy rulers - finish the journey.  All face unimaginable challenges. And in a time of earthquakes and wars, clues from the past eventually lead to the ultimate rescue, one that affects the entire civilization if they only realize that God still rules the Universe.

Her mother whispered the word, “Youxi.” It was a pretty word, made up of two words: to have and happiness. It was the common way to express a pregnancy. But it didn’t make anyone in this small household happy at all.

Ooh, here's where I am:

A storm came on suddenly, with heavy rain, bright flashes, and deafening thunder. They nestled together in Henry’s bunk as the ship heaved. They slept off and on, but mostly shivered through the hours and hours of the ocean tempest. There was an unspoken understanding between them that contained their risky intimacy. They hugged one another, but they did not kiss.

Just got to the part where she has to hide him from the authorities:

“IT’S LIKE A cave,” Henry said, taking one step inside, hoping his eyes would adjust. He caught a whiff of something foul, floating through the stale air like an exterminator’s cloud. He thought of something cute to say, hoping to hear her laugh again, but he held his tongue. The container was eight feet wide and twenty feet long.

Really enjoying Atwood's literary style.
