WTF IS A WINTERFROST?????!!!? I’m so frustrated at hearing this term so often in the book as if it’s a known thing. Does she mean hoar frost?! I can imagine that would go over well as a children’s book title.

Now rape. This isn't cathartic for me the way the sexist society of Gilead is in Handmaid's Tale. It feels reinforcing of patriarchy and victimizing. It's also extreme and gratuitous. I also doubt it's accuracy given other things I've read. I almost want to give up now.

Painful. The sexism doesn't work for me. I keep waiting for her to transcend her gender boundaries and change sexual politics forever within her clan and then there's another horrible setback to put her in her place.

Anyone else ever notice that this story is basically prehistoric Anne of Green Gables? So far anyway...

The narrator has totally lost points in my eyes. Having trouble maintaining my sympathy for him after what he did.

Seemed like a reread was in order.

Loving the second illustrated book just as much as the first!
