This entire book is a long letter from a very old father to a very young son. We learn a lot about life and beliefs and generational clashes and place, and it flows, but I do not have the patience or attention for it right now.

Audiobook narrated by Lenny Henry, Ray Panthaki, Pippa Bennet-Warner, and Arya Sagar

Only 2 narrators so far. Often losing track of the story : there are many asides. Probably better in print. Going to set this aside for a bit.

It has gotten better and more compelling the more I read, and is becoming the book I hoped for: what causes someone to enter the mirror world: a place where positions that seem antithetical and now being embraced.

But as an audiobook, it’s one best in smaller doses. So I had to return the book and it might be awhile before I pick it up again.

Story 1: a group of friends and brief upheaval in the standard order.

Story 2: a vet, his family, a call w a buddy

Story 3: actor typing and wondering about a bizarre twist of fate

I’m listening to book #1, The Invisible Library, and I’m not sure I’ll keep going.

I have developed zero fondness for the titular institution, a place so huge it can take multiple days to walk from one wing to another. Of course, most of the action takes place outside the institution in worlds called “alternates”. The characters are intriguing enough, the plot is clear enough, but I’m not yet hooked.

Abandoned.

Returned to the library without finishing.

I am listening to the audiobook version, and it isn’t working for me. I might try again in print given how many reviews comment on how beautiful it is written.

One thing that will be the same is how for all her fiery feelings, Libertie lets her life float along with the strongest current. We hear her thought so we know she’s thinking for herself. And her mother is so strong and determined, so there’s that..
