What is up with spending so much time describing the physical appearances of these characters? I get it. They are beautiful, each with perfect physique! How many times in the first few chapters do we need to hear this described? I really should know better than randomly picking a book with an illustrated cowboy on the cover.🤦‍♀️

The best quote of this book so far... mother to Aleen: "what about those doctors who say if women study too much, it inhibits their ability to have children." 😂

I'm not giving up on this book since I've made it this far, but for real, will these characters ever realize that hiding things never gets you anywhere good?! They all seem to be terrified of telling the truth and it's making me batty! I love love love Lynn Austin novels, but this one is by far the most depressing one I've read.

This is the first Lynn Austin book I've read where I'm actually getting a little frustrated with the characters, and so early in the book too! "If only she could tell her sisters the truth, but they wouldn't believe her," "if only they could go home, but they can't," etc. I'm hoping the story picks up and the characters get past this "if only" and feeling sorry for themselves narrative soon!

Really wishing I'd read this before reading A Hundred Crickets Singing. I'm curious how many more of her books feature these same characters!
