Some interesting twists that were not that surprising. I have been to a few towns out west and they were pretty much as described.
The jumping back and forth between the two time periods was well done.
Lots of tension but rather predictable.

Interesting concept for space travel. Cloning is one thing, but this takes that to a whole new level.
Once you catch on to keeping track of the dates on the chapters, everything falls into place.
The only thing that was disappointing was the viewpoint that nationalities of humans cannot get along, and then putting that same behaviour onto an alien race as well.
All in all, a great read

If you do not know what redshirts are, you will by the end of the book.
A really neat concept for reality verses fiction. No I do not think is steals from anything, but you will enjoy the references to life on the little screen.

So, the whole horror thing right now is just not gripping me.
