I've switched to the audiobook, and that was the absolute correct choice! Can't put this series down now!

I just know this is going to get super weird really quick, and I am here for it!

The writing is subpar at best, but goddamn is it a fun story. I'm really curious to see where this goes

This book reads as a classic. It's the same feeling I got when I read To Kill a Mockingbird for the first time. Only now, as an adult, I wonder at the implications of a yt woman telling this story. This doesn't make the book wrong, just something I'm pondering while reading it.

I was getting VERY concerned that the book hadn't confirmed the wolf was in fact a werewolf, because the sexual tension between the WMC and a literal wolf was becoming really uncomfortable. Glad that was clarified - *checks notes* - 40% into the book! 😬

This is shaping up to be one of the best YA dystopian stories I've read. The timeline of events is creepy too, considering this was published in 2013...

I'm pretty sure I've figured out what's going on. It's not super hard if you pay attention, plus if I'm right it's a pretty common trope in thriller. If my guess is correct, I'm not sure I'm enjoying this enough to have had that "spoiled" for me.
There are some not great character and narrative choices that have made me cringe.

So far this book has felt like estranged parent propaganda and I'm livid! Children should not be the parent, children shouldn't be made to feel guilty for calling out a parent's shitty behavior! Parents don't get a pass just because they didn't hit them, there are other types of abuse!!!
And children who are wronged by their horrible parents shouldn't be required to apologize for calling the parents out! Ugh!

The space ship is called Demeter! If you've read Dracula, then you know! The unit numbers are in alphanumeric code, each spelling out what the next horror will be!
Goddamn! This is fantastic!!!

The entire sequence of the ship taking care of the humans, watching them grow up, then having to say goodbye... I'm sobbing. It was so good! 😭
