I want to share my highlights but I don’t want to spoil the book.

I’m critical of Lenu’s narration but I trust it for the most part… Lila is being a shitty friend. Lenu has her moments but Lila is relentless!

Lenu spends her time trying to be in competition with Lila or impress Lila and these dusty ass boys. Sick of Pina and Lila speaking to her that way.

Also, Lila is dead ass wrong! Fuck NINO and his trifling daddy. Lenu should just go off to university and forget about these folks.

Love them both but Lila can be so mean spirited to Lenu and it’s pissing me off because Lenu NEVER stands up for herself the way I think she should. Lila has her troubles but she purposely says things to cut deep with Lenu knowing lenu’s insecurities. She deserves to be punched in the face. (Physical book page. )

Also, I love young Lenu but worries too much about how she’ll be perceived. I hate when she retreats and lets herself down based on Lila or Nino.

I love when older Elena shows up with these tidbits. It always makes me wonder how old she is while she’s telling us this story and what stage of life she’s in that allows her to look back on it this way. As the reader I give her grace because she’s young & experiencing her first heart break and now she has one more grievance she’ll hold against Lila.
