The main character is soooooo immature, and weak, and gullible, I’ve had to nibble at this book a little at a time. So, so frustrating. The longer I read, the younger I feel the target audience for this is. Although the described gore might be too much for the five year olds that are at the same maturity level as ol’ Strike First and Get Defeated Later, or whatever his name is. Hothead McShoulderchip.

I'm setting this back on the shelf. Interesting book, but I've no need to read it, really.

I've decided to give up this book. It's a good subject, and I appreciate the different points of view from all these varying scientists from many different disciplines. But... if I'm being honest, it started to get very monotonous. After reading it off and on for a month, when I realized that I was only about 25% done, I knew I would never finish.

Damnit, two hours in, and a Captain keeps referring to a Marine Gunnery Sergeant as "Sergeant." This author is usually on the ball, so why did he get this so wrong?! It's throwing me out of the narrative every time. Pro tip: the shortened version of Gunnery Sergeant is "Gunny," never, EVER Sergeant. I don't care if it's the future, the military doesn't change that fast.
