I think I just struggle with Klosterman’s writing style…he discusses such interesting things like pop culture as though they’re scientific theories to be broken down. Which is interesting, but just doesn’t work for me super well

I hate hate hateeee what SJM is doing to Chaol in this book. This happens a lot in romantasy like this where a human is cast as the kind of annoying side character in a supernatural romance. Like imagine you’re a person trying to save your kingdom from ruin and some girl you know with the power to save it tells you she’d rather be making out with her fae boyfriend 😐

Really cannot afford to love another author who writes mythological stories but only deigns to publish one once a decade or so

It’s a big goal of mine to read more of the classics written by women so hyped to be starting this (also I really want to participate in the discourse about this Emerald Fennell adaptation)

criminal that manon’s pov chapters are so interesting and yet so sparse

this is such an ongoing problem with maas but she is so lame about making her characters physical appearances different. even if your world values beauty what that means is different for everyone!!! it’s so clear her own idea of what the standards should be dictates her characters and she’s so unwilling to gaze outside that box 😭 man.

super thrilled we took a break from war to make darrow and victra eat a bucket of bugs

pierce brown has gotten so good at writing engaging scenes of combat it’s crazy

there’s already so many clear game of thrones ripoffs in this series but dubbing a character “wolf of the north” is crazy work 😭

Least believable thing about this novel of working holo tech and spaceships traveling between planets is that women want Darrow

every sci-fi has its evil truth box and I think that’s beautiful

That fight scene was so riveting for the 5 seconds it was happening

That was such a comical sequence of events

I want to excuse the writing here by saying SJM was 18 but like…R.F Kuang wrote The Poppy War at 19. Tony Stark built this in a CAVE with a BOX OF SCRAPS !!! Get it together !!!
