Jill is on page 50 of 192 of Breaking the System: How Digital Innovators Shape the Future of Health Care
In short, the employer-based health care system is no longer a viable structure to deliver health insurance to patients, because it rests on a model . . . that existed for a very short time in the mid-twentieth century (50).

Profits rose when care wasn't provided (96).

The description of the pot heads was cliche to excess, the minutiae of description can be disruptive, and the tension between Robin and Strike, irritating.
Otherwise, the story is entertaining and I do love to read about the towns they visit. Rowling's ear for voices is impressive.

I'm stuck. It's a downer of a book, and it exposes the foundation that led to our current mess. It is hard to have the happy-myths so thoroughly exposed as fraud, even when I suspected the truths. I need to finish it; I am hoping for some optimism.

I rarely read a book so dripping with cliche and over explanation. First night in the pld house, and she MUST know the secrets. She spent the first 30 pages hoping to be taken in just to stay alive. I'm not sure I'll be able to take it seriously much longer.

So far, I am unimpressed with the editing. Two references to bespectacled characters only a few sentences apart. Then they order, then order again within 8 sentences and the same conversation. Maybe a keener eye could have cut 100 pages from this brick.

Other than the editing, the story is good and I have no hope for a Strike and Robin match-up. I'm prepared for 1000 pages of waffling and second guessing.

I'm a little distracted by the overwhelming amount of narration. I keep wondering if it is weak storytelling or meant to represent/mimic/symbolize the isolation of the characters.
I almost quit reading when it took a snow machine 4 days to travel 50 miles. It's an eady day trip for a snow machine...

This story is taking for-ev-er . I mean, it is so obvious where the relationship is going. I hope something interstate happens soon because I don't know if I can slog through another 190 pages of "Will she? Won't she?" Knowing that she will.

I just started this book and read the reviews. It seems that the "kids" hated it while the "adults " enjoyed it... hmmm...
I like it so far...

Reading for a book club. It is helping to keep me thinking of something other than a pandemic and possibly the end of a career and processing both.

It's a slog. As long as I read about the people, it's good...the theory....well, I don't really need it.

I'm unimpressed with the whole scale copying of the Sherlock Holmes pastiche. The characters are second generation down to the dog. Ive begun to speed read, just to find any saving grace at the end of the "mystery

I keep trying to read this one. I just can't get past the first 15 pages. Confusing, simple, visually unappealing, it just won't grab my attention. I keep putting it down and picking it up truly attempting to meet my obligation to read it. The struggle is real.

So, far better than my olther recent choices. I'm enjoying the story, but finding the character rather whiney and self-loathing at times. Maybe I've been spoiled by all the YA lit heroes that solve problems and set things to rights rather than escape and self-destuct. The second half has the potential to end on a positive, dare I hope for, or inspirational note.
