Another great book by Klein. She identifies nuances and hypocrites. I sympathise with her positive attitude towards the end of the book and definitely appreciate individuals and organizations greatly who sacrificed in order to win battles against power. The most valuable part is at the end where she emphasizes nature is not there just for its use value. It is not something that needs to be mastered.

This was a hard read for me. I enjoyed the ideas put forward but it felt as if they had to show through the cracks of a wall of an academic literature review. I also did not follow how the problem of dualism was swerved around to make the case for ecologies beyond the living but that might be my impatience.

You end up having an appreciation of what made Tommy Caldwell into him. The emotions, the decisions he made, the empathy for others and how he thinks how others think were all important components of the book. As most people who enjoy outdoors will, I found a tiny glimpse of myself and to me that's most valuable. A connection with an author.

I have not watched Mr Burns documentary but from what I heard this book and the documentary would go well together. The black panther party is described in a balanced (not neutral) manner and is clearly criticized when they failed in living their ideals at the end of their organization. The book provides a good thought on how to mobilize change and the limits of liberals.

Certainly a good book, the only disappointment was when the author makes quick judgements on the people whose choices led them to their death. For instance I had not expected from someone who takes meaning from walking and observing, a stereotypical judgement of mountaineers as people who have Peter pan complexes or people who want to conquer landscapes. However overall it was a great read.
