Meh. This is supposed to be an updated version, but what worked in 1930 is sketchy and suspicious in 2026

This read like I was watching a movie created in 1958, which I suppose is a good thing, since that's when it takes place. The pace slowly meandered through pages, picking up steam towards the middle, then crashing through the finish like it hit a brick wall. Brody, Scott, Charlie, and the others faced moral consequences, but no legal ones. While the story is good overall, I was left feeling unfulfilled.

Not a bad read. Not a great read. I seem to be stuck in a rut with my run on fiction.

Miranda is on a quest to discover the meaning behind the scavenger hunt messages her uncle left for her after he died, presumably of cancer. Along the way, she uncovers family secrets, inherits a bookstore, falls out of love and in love again, and blah blah blah... *yawn*

I love books that have main characters going through major feats of self-discovery. I find them inspiring and motivational. There's truth to the fiction.

Stephanie Johnson is finished with How to Stop Time
This was beautifully written as usual for Matt Haig, but the ending was so out of the blue, hokey, and just shoved in there to wrap up a long, drawn-out plotline. There were a few one-liner takeaways that pulled at my heartstrings, but it wasn't his best work.

This was a darker tale about the twisted life of 1920s stock market financier Andrew Bevel and his wife Mildred, told through the eyes of his biographer, Ida. Though fictional, it's not hard to imagine that women were the power behind the thrones of many of the day's stock market "geniuses".

This book is beautiful, uplifting, and helped quiet my mind and let me know that I'm doing just fine.
