Pragmatic lessons about human nature. This book explains things as they are, rather than how we want them to be.

Enjoying this immensely so far.

I'm about halfway through this book and enjoying it so far. I enjoy the tone of the writing.

Finished! I liked this book, but it was a bit of a challenge. It took me a while to figure out that whenever the author referred to an unspecified "He", she meant Cromwell. But after a while I got into the groove.
What complicated politics were going on 500 years ago! I wonder how a modern woman with modern-day ideas would fare in King Henry VIII's England.

I got 4/5ths of the way through this book and just abandoned it. Hobb did a great job of creating a unique fantasy world, but there was just too much misery for me. The characters' circumstances just got worse and worse. While conflict and hardship make for good stories, there were no bright spots for me. The book became a slog. I decided I wasn't enjoying the book and put it down.
