Jay Green is on page 40 of 256 of Black Mass: Apocalyptic Religion and the Death of Utopia
On page 40 and not sure how much more of this home-spun "common-sense" schtick I can put up with. Calling Marxism utopian when Engels specifically wrote a book on the subject distinguishing Marxist socialism from the utopian form indicates the lack of depth and overgeneralisation on show here.

On a bit of a Thomas Nagel binge. Blimey, he's a breath of fresh air after years of popular scientism.

Jay Green is on page 40 of 152 of Prezident Scumbag!: A Sick Bastard Novella (The Sick Bastard World Tour Collection)
Satisfyingly vulgar so far, but with some sterling explanations of the current barbarism.

Delighted to wake up this morning to find a review comparing the characters in Fowl Play to those created by John Kennedy Toole. Can't think of a better compliment for a satirist. That's my weekend already made!

Jay Green is on page 300 of 448 of No Pasarán!: Writings from the Spanish Civil War
Just noticed this collection includes Jean-Paul Sartre's short story "The Wall," which I must have first read 30 years ago without realizing it was set in the Spanish Civil War. Not one of his best stories, tbh.

Reading as research for Book 4, Manuel Estimulo's Fascist Book of Everything. An easy read, content notwithstanding, thanks to the quality of the writing.

Really enjoying this. Whitehead's Process Philosophy is enjoying something of a renaissance at the moment, with the rise of the New Materialism and the appreciation among many scientists (at long last!) that reductive physicalism leads into a cul de sac. In tandem with Stuart Kauffman's Humanity in a Creative Universe, this book performs a scissor movement, Kauffman coming from biology, Whitehead from philosophy.

Bring out your votes!

Just a wee reminder that you only have a few days left to vote for Ivy Feckett as best indie book of 2016, if you haven't already done so. Even if you have already done so, why not do it again? You're allowed to vote twice! And don't forget to vote for Harry Whitewolf in the Poetry section too.

Jay Green is on page 100 of 275 of Rabid: A Cultural History of the World's Most Diabolical Virus
A little meandering and some details that don't seem at all relevant to the topic at hand but still enjoying it.
