IGNORE THE WARNING ON THE COVER!

I love the whimsy and it appeals to my sense of the ridiculous. I had to put it down the other night because I was keeping my poor husband awake with my giggling. Really. Buy it.

Just got this yesterday. My first impression is that his writing style is wonderfully fluid and easy to read, making it highly accessible to any audience.

Stopped after chapter 2. Turgid doesn't cover it!

Anna Johnstone is reading The Death of Christian Britain: Understanding Secularisation, 1800-2000 (Christianity and Society in the Modern World)
Chapter one explains the author's purpose and methodology. Chapter 2 explains how secularisation in Britain began long before the 20th century and primarily in Urban areas where the closeness of the rural community was absent from everyday life. He also notes that the decline in church-going often began in the elite of society, rather than among the working class.

Up to chapter 25 and loving it. Incredibly interesting and objective. Tells the reader what happened without trying to sell the religion. Marvellous and I can't wait to read more of his work.
