Tatiana is 59% done with Bright-Sided: How the Relentless Promotion of Positive Thinking Has Undermined America
This book covers a lot of topics in a short span of time and across time.

In the 90s, when there were lots of white collar lay offs, she mentions how businesses got really into positive thinking and told people to think of it as a positive thing.

Now she's talking about mega churches which pimp out prosperity gospel and have large followings.

I wanted to read books about suicide or where the author had committed suicide. The death of this author has no confirmed cause of death; the family refused to release it. She died October 2025.

I do have to say though. I am very bored. I thought this was fiction but it's a memoir done in a unique style.

On the struggle bus with this one.

Can't decide if I dislike the female lead or find everything about her and her life uninteresting.

I am still struggling to follow along. I thought this was a retelling of the Oedipus myth but...

Also. Why would a woman who didn't want a baby run off with it instead of leaving it with the father? And then only to abandon the baby after?

And why would the lead hunt this woman down??

Ban nonlinear storytelling.

And the female lead keeps addressing her mother with "you". I dislike this.

It's gonna take me a month to finish this. I just know it. And it feels impossible to keep up with how old everyone is...

This is why I hate family sagas. T.T

Slowly but surely T.T I love this narrator a lot though.

Lots of great nuggets and insight here. Kingsnorth quotes loads of people.

I am bored of the Ophelia, the FMC. She comes from a wealthy family but they hate her and I guess didnt grow up rich but everyone thinks she did. And some traumatic thing drove her away and I'm worried that this reveal is very very boring.

I am hoping that the disease turns you into a necromorph versus just a normal killer :/

I am listening to this on Audible. I think 10% is correct.

This book is fantastic! It looks at revolutionary violence prevalent in the 60s amd 70s. Basically, white revolutionaries were obsessed with helping the Black Panthers (or Black Americans writ large). We did get an intro the creation of the Black Panthers, and looked at Malcolm X (who was murdered by Black Muslims).

Already a must read!

I really dont think wholeness makes you want to "make the world a better place".

And the author is fixated on social justice bullshit.

White liberals love the smell of their own shit. A LOT of white self help has a lot of the same "this is how you know you're spiritually healthy" and it's basically being a white person on the left.

No thanks!

This is why discernment is important. The author literally positions conservatives as unhinged, constantly attacking sweet innocent progressives (who have ✨no political goals or aims AT ALL✨).

This is misinformation, but it's also just fucking false. Progressives arent sad people at the mercy of white Christians. This makes me respect the author less. Liberal diatribes 🤮

Despite referencing Dr. King, Ibram X. Kendi, Maya Angelou AND Harriet Tubman - she never once says "Black/people". Once she says person of color. And keeps calling people "oppressed".

The book isnt about race or activism, but the author's liberal leanings are apparent and a poor addition.

Hm. Not sure how I feel. I like how the dragons are depicted but dislike the sudden attraction Robert has to the Princess and the Princess' obsession with the Prince simply because he is so handsome.

I do however want a poster of this book's cover.

I can't buy the Peter x Amy ship. It's weird and comes out of nowhere!

My main complaint is that the romantic relationships are often shallow. I think the friendships are way better.

I WILL finish this book with God as my witness!!! D:<

I'm listening to this on audible which doesn't have percentages. But I've just started this and it's mind blowing. Every time I read a new political book I feel like my perspective is improving or changing.

This book also puts into perspective the concept of liberation that Black "progressives" are obsessed with. It's the ability to be free of the state. As I understand it. And it's a core aspect of liberalism.

How is this book going to end!?

Still 15 hours to go though. So we shall see.

Eustace's wife and son died :(

The town in Iowa, which had all the kidnapped peoples and subsequent revolt, has fallen apart. No one knows how to do anything, and there's no will. The book says that after 10 years nothing worked, but he's the sheriff. So what is he in charge of exactly? A derelict city?

Peter is now 51!

We are just traveling through time. Caleb, Peter's nephew/son, is married to a deaf woman and they are going to live on a homestead. Sarah's daughter Kate is married to a man who cant keep a job.

And Peter seems to still love Amy. After 20 years?!

Michael works for the underground market. How lovely for him!

I cant remember Dunk...

"Racial solidarity is a luxury belief."

He says that Black people who make more than 100k a year think that all Black people have something in common.

Whereas 30% of Blacks who make 30-100k think the Black community is diverse/not a singular identity.

Racial solidarity is an anti Black concept which tracks with wealthy Blacks.

I can't with this Michael being love with Alicia business. It's killing me!

Also realized that it was Michael who discovered the signal and coordinates to Colorado yet he gets forgotten so that Peter becomes the one who is the mastermind.

Some of the character + plot stuff leaves something to be desired.

Maybe this author just doesnt do romance very well. I also dont buy Peter and Amy liking each other. I dunno. I just never saw it.

I also thought it would've been spicier if the author had kept Amy looking 14 instead of her Pokemon style evolution into a woman. Boo! #AlwaysChooseTheTaboo

Michael holding a torch for Alicia is a crock of shit. She is halfway to NYC and not even thinking of these people!!!!
