DNF I wanted to like this book but it’s just not holding my attention. May try again some other time.

If this had been the first McMahon novel I had read, I probably wouldn’t have read any of her other books. It’s been such a slog to read and the characters are all so unlikeable. Not in a good “love-to-hate-you” kind of way but in an extremely annoying “want-to-slap-you-with-your-own-book” kind of way. I’m seriously debating whether to finish reading it or not.

“The Elfstones of Shannara” is one of those stories that always makes me cry.

Just finished the first book in the trilogy, “The Sword of Shannara”. The first time I tried to read this book I couldn’t get through it. I’ve read it three times since then and I’m really glad I gave it another try. I love the characters, and the great world-building. Sometimes the book gets bogged down in detail, but the story is engrossing.

I’m enjoying the story, but the copy of the ebook that I am reading would have greatly benefitted from better proofreading. There are so many typos and inconsistencies that are very distracting. It is hard to stay immersed in the story when the wrong names are used or the conversations become muddled and you have to backtrack in your reading to figure out who is actually speaking and what is really going on.

I have given up on trying to finish reading this...

It took me forever to get through the first book, and is taking forever to get through the second book as well.

Disappointing

I’ve mostly lost interest at this point. Most of the book has been a collection of anecdotes, including plenty of praise for the authors’ own agency.
