God I hate this book.

I keep finding parts I have something to say about:

The way he talks about avoiding grief after such a blow in his youth and how even her death would make him feel slightly better. Or little things like after getting spooked by something the night before, he doesn’t go in the water that day. The way Murdoch writes these details is nuanced so that he’s relatable even while we cringe at his blind narcissism.

The 8th edition is so bad I came here to find out if it was written by AI. The way the chapters are constructed make them feel like they go on forever. But worse, the way the information is explained feels completely unorganized. Assumptions are made that haven’t been established, terms are used to explain something in a footnote that are used nowhere else in the book, the more I read the more confused I get.

The reviews made me think I would hate this but I loved it. I don’t really know much about Mindy other than the shows and movies I’ve seen her in but I picked this up randomly. It’s part biography and part just honest ramblings about a woman’s hopes, dreams, and foibles. I think it’s better ten years after it was published because we can see where she ended up. This was a fun, quick, and human read.

This is my first Stephen King book if we don't count abandoning "The Talisman" halfway in and I was super wary of a 750 page book about aliens. I can't put it down though. It's like a great series uploaded to Netflix all at once. You're going to lose a weekend to it. Hoping this one doesn't let me down in the third act.
