Holly is starting The Pale Criminal (Bernie Gunther, #2)
Oof that’s some vintage queer bashing & homophobia. Bracing. And of course, evergreen racism.

What’s not to love about a lactose intolerant baker heroine who makes dessert choices based on the presence of her potential dates. Love her, so real.

If you love reading the Old Testament than you’ll love Fire & Blood! (Fewer stories of circumcision, more beheadings)

Audiobook Gripe: Why why why why have a book obsessed with the London provenance of its characters voiced by actors with American accents???? So wrong.

Reading a book about Paris during the Occupation seems a good fit for the current political season.

If your only quibble with Harry Potter is the paucity of teen homoeroticism than this is the book for you. I'm loving it.

Holly is starting The Scorch Trials (The Maze Runner, #2)
"He knew by instinct" can only be used one time as a major plot device. By the third use you've really undermined a perfectly acceptable teen dystopia zombie thriller.

Started this with zero expectations or knowledge of what to expect and I'm enthralled. Great audiobook too, fantastic narration.

Holly is starting When Books Went to War: The Stories That Helped Us Win World War II
If you felt like what World War Two was missing was a real feel good story than this is for you. It reads like a long Reader's Digest article, very G rated & optimistic. Has its place, but it's not really holding my attention.

how freaking white is this guy? this writer is so blinded by his own life it makes his book myopic.

Really appreciating learning more about this era of political rebellion. However the author's very mainstream sexism & racism make it a wee bit hard to digest. One example: referring to a couple by his last name as her first name. Sloppy.

I'm really enjoying this sequel to World Made by Hand. But I'm more than a little peeved that the first mention of ANY LGBT people surviving into the post-oil era is on page 189 of the second book. Maybe it's just my homo-sexist attitude talking but I think us queers would kick ass in a post-apocalyptic universe.
