This is just POV of a hostage situation and an excuse to write about women and children being assaulted.

I rarely go to thrillers etc but this is the 4th in a row for book club and I'm fed up with how they're all based on women and/or children being abused.

This book treats readers like idiots.
"Let me explain to you all, conveniently gathered right here, my evil master plan. But also look, for I have this relic you all know about but I must explain to you anyway"

_omg it's the relic and he's going to use it for his evil master plan! Goodness I best keep to this handily unguarded hidden spot so I can continue listening in to the plot!!_

The lovely thing about a new book club in the local pub is that they decided to buy us the first book. Then they bought the first 3 and thought we could rotate them, which is great in a group of 30 people so it's smaller groups to discuss in at first.

Unfortunately it means I have 3 bloody Freida McFadden books to suffer through. Will this one be another elaborate plot to sleep with a man?

18 lines later.

"Angelina had worked here for 2 years"

This is absolutely ridiculous - which says a lot when I primarily read fantasy. Thrillers really aren't for me, but it's a bookclub book and I know the next two months are also this author.

I call bullshit on a modern day fast paced work environment in Manhattan using so much paper post and fax machines. But we need it. For the plot!

This author is so desperate to shoehorn in every Scottish word she can that she's used outwith utterly incorrectly.

This is a rage read

Several typos and mentions of rape 20 pages in. I don't have high hopes for my current kindle can't sleep distraction book

I see the women in Brontë novels continue to ignore red flags (or, are red flags themselves)

I feel like I've fallen into another hype trap of mediocre typical fantasy book that would be slated if it was written by a woman but it's written by a white man so we love it
