Character writing is still honestly just bad. But everything else is enough to keep me reading

Also, you'd think that someone as obsessed with sex and virginity would have googled a damn hymen at least once in their life and could understand that it does not, in fact cover up the vaginal entrance. In the vast majority of cases anyway. Nor does it disappear after having had sex. It just... stretches a bit.

Ugh, now there's a love triangle. As if the relationship wasn't bad enough in the last one.

Really enjoying this. Didn't enjoy the Ligtbringer series, so was somewhat hesitant going into this, but it's been keeping me reading like nothing has in months.

That was the oddest and possibly least believable swordfight I've read in a while.

Omg this book is so clumsily written. Perfect example of an author with good ideas but not much skill. I will say that having read Islington's most recent book, he has improved A LOT since writing this. But my goodness is it frustrating to read at times.

I wish I could just download the knowledge of what happens to my brain so I wouldn't have to actually read it, but I'd still know the story lol

So far, I'm pleasantly surprised by this book. Tried reading Islington's other series and didn't make it past the 60 page mark of the first book. This is already a great improvement over that, which is always great to see.

Finally delving into John Gwynne's stuff. I really hope I like it because I've been struggling to find some good epic fantasy I've not read.

"The crowds who come out to watch their display of prowess are best described as 'every mare, stallion and gelding who can possibly attend.'"

Please. Stop. With. The. Forced. Horse. Metaphors.

Every time I come across a phrase pike this (so like every 2 pages), I have to stop reading because I'm already fed up with the weird horse metaphors.
