Honestly, the hype isn’t hyping for me. I’m over 100 pages in and I can’t really say there is anything about this story that makes me want to keep reading it. The over-writing, excessive use of unnecessary and ridiculous similes, overly wordy sentences, unnecessary explanations of what’s going to happen before it happens…I’m an English teacher, I could go on! I’m probably going to DNF this .

While I am enjoying the actual story, I am so bogged down by the outsider accounts of it years and years later. I’m learning to skim those parts. I don’t feel like they add anything to the story and if he’d left all that out the book would be so much shorter and easier to manage. I care about Kalin, Landry, and Tom….not what some random person has to say about their experience 20-30 years later.

DNF at 10% I’m not a fan of the format or the writing. It’s way too long for me to try to hang in there longer waiting for it to get better. It could use a lot of editing too.
