A couple of these I've already read in different anthologies, but it's always nice to trade fiction for helping a good cause.

This scene with Clytemnestra and Cassandra is EVERYTHING

I freaking love Calliope: “Men’s deaths are epic, women’s deaths are tragic: is that it? [The poet] has misunderstood the very nature of conflict. Epic is countless tragedies, woven together.

…But it hurts, he said when Creusa died…

It does hurt, I whispered. It should hurt.”

So this first chapter is actually very... hopeful? Optimistic? With a persuasive argument that humans are naturally cooperative and social rather than violent: "The truth is that most of us are not hardwired to hurt or kill each other. We need to be programmed [e.g., by the government/military] to commit murder." (page 33)

(I don't anticipate the optimism to continue)

Why is this one so much more stressful than the other white rat world books??

Okay so it doesn’t move and isn’t quite a castle, but it’s basically Howl’s castle, and Sophie—I mean, Gisele is under a curse, but it turns out it’s faced inward and shouldn’t effect anyone but her. Excellent. Ignore my giggling

I have got to stop reading horror at night.

"The story is over, it's almost over." Just in time for a traumatizing last line! 🫠

I guess it's not really a Kelly Link story if I don't end up saying, aloud, "What the fuck" at the end.

Okay no the mammoths make sense, this is good

The mammoths were a bit much but overall how is this book so GOOD

Not loving the dismissal of sexual harassment claims.

How did this go through so many hands without someone being like Hey it's wary, not weary. You're freaked out, not tired.
