The first pages of this book describe Alex as pale, and sandy-haired not once but twice: yet the cover of the copy I have portrayed him as tan with black hair. Graphic design mishap? Or does he undergo radical transformation in the rest of the book? Time will tell

One chapter in and interested enough that I’ve already googled the (apparently fictitious) diagnosis. Hope it contained to be engaging!

Re-reading to refresh for the musical

Gonna pause this to read a library book ‘cause I’m on a time crunch it’s almost due

“Womanlike, I forgot reason and argument together.” (pg. 91) | “Like a reasonable human being, which means not like a woman.” (pg. 94)

Heavy eye-roll. 1961 = internalized misogyny, I suppose

I’m struggling with my mental image of our MC because I cannot tell how old she is. “Years” and “decades” are thrown around pretty interchangeably, and then on pg. 44 she’s just thought “in my old age” in a sort of sardonic sense. That move alone gives me 30s vibes, but again, “decades”—are we talking 40s? 50s? I hope that is clarified so I can picture these people better

Im not sure how this will go because I’m not even to the prologue and I’m already cringing.
1) After the cover theirs a magazine-type paper showing the main character’s dating app profile, and it’s so annoying and pretentious
2) My local library has the Walmart special edition, and in the little “thanks” forward, the author rants about her bad dates
Baffling.

I don’t personally see how this supposed to be a genderbent Beauty & the Beast. It’s not even Beauty and the Beast adjacent

I can get through multiple POVs, and I can tolerate non-linear timelines, but juggling both at the same time is a bit of a doozy
