I'm not sure what compelled me to pick up this novel, since I didn't really like the other work I read by this author (Shadow and Bone). Taylor's writing is very atmospheric, vert fae-like. It didn't work for me in her other novel, but so far I'm enjoying this one. But mix some alchemy and a library full of scholars together and you're sure to catch my attention.
