Chapter 13 The Second Battle of the Alamo

DNF!

Ran out of Spotify play time! I'll finish the final hour in a week. :D

Not great for audio - there are multiple patches in it already - I bet there was a rush to make the audio in time for the BOTM release. 🤷‍♀️

I hate this. I'd already forgotten about the Alamo. It wasn't until this came up for book club that I was forced to remember.

It's like a text book plus a bunch of guys patting themselves on the back for thier reconsideration of the Alamo.

Could all this just be a podcast episode on "You're wrong about that...." ? Please? One episode. No longer than 90 minutes.

DNF - It was frusterating not being able to follow the story because it is written in dialect. Very disappointing.

Dnf - audio hard to focus on…

Nope DNF

FINISHED not going to read to the end... I hate Danny and everything was juts annoying. She walks all over people and then it always works out... It's frusterating that all her lying somehow means that she still gets exactly what she wants... and she deceives everyone into thinking it was their idea and in their best interest all along. whomp.

I'm not even enjoying this. Monotone. Lousy technology - why watch tv when you can instantly download it with good download speed? Annoying narrator, Murderbot. It would be more enjoyable if it were narrated by a human.

"Comfort Units" - Sexbots.

Explicit self harm, rape, affairs, body-shaming... not for me.

Disappointing

PAUSED at 50% on second reading... A Libby book - The Whisper Man - became available!

dnf - very frustrating. Couldn't keep track of the characters or what information they had shared about their pasts.

The thing to remember is this is a book about buying books and the history of buying books. It has a bias towards brick and mortal Bookshops.
It has a bias against libraries and online booksellers particularly Amazon. It is also not a fan of books sold in stores like Target, Walmart, and Macy's.

Remember:
It is not a book about reading.

Aweful audio! Sometimes she slips into an Australian accent by mistake because it is never explained or even acknowledged. 🤦🏼‍♀️

PAUSE

DNF - boring...

I just read the 'Modern Text' about half way through. I just wanted to read the story and not try to piece together the meanings of the cryptic Shakespeare writing... sue me.

Someone on Reddit stopped at this exact place too. It does that thing with Thriller books where it gets too complicated while also getting unbelievable to the point of feeling like a fiction of a fiction - like historical fiction is to history but a fiction thriller to a fiction - like there is already a normal original fiction book and then this is the fiction thriller of that book. It's just dumb. p306
