Victoria is 56% done with 1634: The Baltic War
My summer vacation in a cooler place than Albuquerque this year is Europe in the Little Ice Age. I've re-read 1632, 1633, and now the Baltic War. Definitely military SF . I know more about how cannon were constructed in the 1600s than I ever knew before, but these authors make even that interesting!

I'm on page 121. Not sure why the date is so strange. My computer is aware today is 20 Aug 2013. No idea why Goodreads things I'm 11 months in the past.

Again I am delighted with the ides of the month as January's Baen update has brought me Necessity's Child, the newest in the Liaden series by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller. 54% read on my Kindle and I LOVE it! Only now they are on Surebleak instead of Liad, will we have to have a new series title?

YAY!! It's the 15th so next month's Baen books are out in ebooks! I just got Captain Vorpatril's Alliance and will be reading as soon as the ball game is over. 8th inning and it's a commercial. NOW!

Those of you who watch this space are aware I read VERY fast. Personal accomplishment - I just topped 1300 books read on Fictfact.com. Obviously I don't mention them all here. Fictfact doesn't ask me to review them:)

ARGH!! Somewhere I saw a suggestion to try Anne Bishop as I like Robin D. Owens. NO THANKS! I do not find murder, heinous torture, and massive bloodshed sexy. And that was just the 1st 3 pages of Daughter of the Blood:P Maybe to some people's taste. Not mine.

Had the GREAT pleasure of meeting Susan Elizabeth Phillips yesterday. She spoke and signed books at a local Albuquerque library. I get to read The Great Escape before release date!

Just read the list of the 50 Most Read Books in the US currently. Felt, as usual, most completely out of step with the ordinary/average reader. Most of the list I would not read unless paid substantial amounts for my time. Some I wouldn't read under any circumstances. Wish I knew how to look at my own updates to see if anyone else feels this way.

Kindle and Oz fans take note - Amazon is selling a package of all 14 of L. Frank Baum's Oz books for Kindle for 95 cents. Great deal! Hope this notice is legal here, but I have seen ads for other books, so I thought I would try.

Browsing lists of best series and finding the same thing over and over. OK, people, J.K. Rowling, Stephenie Meyer and Suzanne Collins have made a LOT of money writing YA fantasy. Can somebody please write something ELSE for a change?

I got Darynda Jones' first book and immediately started it. Hey! Didn't know she was a local girl. Story is fun and interesting and I am enjoying spotting the locales.

A confession - Now that I've rated enough books to get bunches of recommendations, I'm marking a bunch "want to read" that I already have, way back in the distant past. Don't remember enough to review, but sometime in the last 60 years I have read them. Can't wait to find them again.

In case anyone has noticed, yes I do read multiple books more or less simultaneously. One on the dining table, one on the Kindle, one by the bed, etc.

Yes, I have just added a number of books to my currently reading shelf. Might as well confess that I usually have several going at once.

According to my library's online site, I'm up to #16 (out of 30+) on the waiting list for Susan Elizabeth Phillips' latest book The Great Escape. So I'd better get started on re-reading all the pre-quels so I know who is who. With SEP's long, involved and interlocking family trees (see the map on her website)any characters may drop in anywhere in any book at any time. It'll be fun getting reacquainted.
