I am.. not well..

What a gut-wrenching opening chapter.

Re-reading this as the first and only time I read it was 2017 and I honestly don't think I got it. I want to give it a fair shot now that I'm much older and somewhat wiser.

Note from where I am up to - the fact that families will celebrate while two families close their shutters and try to figure out how to survive breaks my heart. I don't think I could ever celebrate around those going through the heartbreak.

Violet blinked rapidly, and Daphne noticed that there were actually tears in her mother's eyes. No one ever gave her flowers, she realised. At least not since her father had died ten years earlier. Violet was such a mother - Daphne had forgotten that she was a woman as well.

I've been dying for a re-read. Ugh that prologue!!!! and Kelsier!!!! So happy to be back.

First short story is written by Kate Weinberg, I enjoyed this one enough and it has a link to a full novel that she's written so I'd be interested in picking that up in future.

The second short story is written by Olivie Blake, and I ended up skim reading, it seemed very wordy at times for no reason, it felt like she was trying to build up an academic feeling but just threw a lot of words at the page & went with it.

I'm struggling and losing interest.. hm..

It's a cold, rainy, autumn day and I saw somewhere that Jane Eyre is a perfect 'fall' read. So I've picked it up. I'm enjoying it so far. So many thoughts already from chapter one! The reed family are awful.

I've just been sent an ARC from Harper Collins. Screaming, crying, throwing up. Everything else is put on hold for this book.

This set up, the atmosphere, the characters! This seems promising 🤭
