Bolaño's final. Is it better than the rest because of its proximity to abrupt plateauing of his skill? I don't know about that. What I do know is that it continues to highlight the ease and care with which he paints his portraits, each vivid despite the frugal use of brush strokes. And never complete, in the spirit the evocative sketch.

The skill with which the author slips into such different narrative voice and body between stories, conjuring world-first terminology that manages to make sense without even once attenptibg to explain what they are or mean, is the hallmark of a master craftsman. This is my first book of Peters' but understand the appreciation shown her work.

read this box-of-chocolates too slowly, savouring, and had to return it to the library with a reprimand! i'll just have to finish it off their shelf until the temporary borrowing ban expires :>

I've two demands of myself in 2026: at least three books written by trans men, and way more poetry in general, because this year's shelving—while having seen some gems—was stagnant.
