Pretty interesting but it went off track.

I’m writing a review before even finishing this landmark novel. John Boyne is one of the finest writers of a generation. To read him is pure joy, a writer of distinction, with a gifted ability for character development- this book is a well laid out series of sections developing a specific type of lust and cruelty that is exquisitely unbearable - just read it and thank me later.

Too many stories within stories. I’m almost at 59% and feeling exhausted by this book.

At the end of the day, we all remember for the same reason we try to forget: to survive in a world that neither understands nor values us.”

“Where there is trauma, look for signs, for there are always signs”

“A tree always knows that it is linked to endless life forms- and that it’s existence is not an isolated happenstance but intrinsic to a wider community “

It took me precisely 33% of the book to understand where this was heading. Then I fell in love with this book. By 52% in precisely, I fell out of love with this book. Back in love at 65%. Some chapters are exceptionally novel and engrossing, others are less so. This is a VERY unique and unusual novel. I can’t wait to see how this wraps!!

MEH. I picked up this book because Elizabeth Gilbert gushed about it. I honestly didn’t find ANYTHING redeeming about a self proclaimed lazy, stay in bed over-eating comic who talks about her anus a lot. WTF Elizabeth Gilbert.

Started it but got distracted. Gets bogged down.

I didn’t really get into this book and stopped reading mid-way. A bit disappointing

Beautiful. Halfway through and had to rerun it to the library. Will go back to complete.

Currently reading. Be back soon.
