Book is whimsical and reminds me of Harry Potter. Fans of HP would love this children’s novel.

Was not expecting to like this book but it’s really fun, great world building and a fun mix of the contemporary and thriller genres.

There’s either too much foreshadowing in this book or I’m just smart because I’m once again picking up on the major plot line even though I forgot what happened since I last read this novel 3 years ago. But the atmosphere is really good, the setting may be the best part of this novel.

I forgot how much I love this book. This childhood series is enough to get you out of a reading slump. I need to remember that in the future.

I like this play a lot! Might be my second favorite after Macbeth. So far I’m thinking:
1.) Macbeth
2.) Merchant of Venice
3.) Othello
4.) Julius Caesar.

Oof also not a massive fan of this one. Kind of just a history lesson masked as a play. The best retellings are those done in unique ways, but shakespeare basically just spends the entire plot dramatizing how Julius Caesar probably died. There’s no added layers or anything. Yawn.

I already like Macbeth more than Othello. The plot is so complex! The relationship between Lady Macbeth and Macbeth is really intriguing. I love how Shakespeare plays with guilt by inserting hallucinations, too. It’s kind of reminding me of Urban Fantasies I’ve read where it’s not quite real world but not quite fantastical either.

Well, I’m pretty much halfway through. So far Othello is just all right. It’s a fast read, which I appreciate, and I really do like Iago. He’s one of those villains who’s terrible but you love him anyway, like Kaz Brekker. Other than Iago, though, no character really stands out to me. Also, the plot is pretty basic-just a standard love affair. Plays like Twelfth Night were more complex and interesting.

This book is different from the movie, though I’d still say they did a pretty good job adapting it. I understand now they probably needed Wybie to get her to externalize her dialogue.

I didn’t expect the trials to be different, though. The animals are more actively obstacles for the book. The people in book world simply like inactive shells of bodies, whereas they’re played up in the movie.

I wanna read more Neil Gaiman after this but my TBR is already sky high. Decisions, decisions...hopefully my mom still has her copy of Good Omens lying around somewhere.

I just love Neil Gaiman. His stories are so whimsical. The source material for Coraline is as good as the movie. Although, I wonder why they created an entire character just for the film. Whybie isn’t in the book at all.

I like the second half of this better than the first. It’s less predictable. However, some scenes do feel repetitive.

Also, wow, this book seriously needed more edits. The dialogue at points is just...no. I do appreciate that he (an adult) made his teens sound like actual teens, but still, his sentence structures are cringe-inducing at points. His characters and the setting remain the best parts of the novel.

Well, I’ve gotten a third of the way through. It’s becoming more and more apparent to me that this book could’ve used some more edits. It’s hard to get past some of the cringey lines of dialogue and the poor sentence structures sometimes.

I do really like these characters and the setting a lot though. Additionally, it’s really fast-paced, full of action, which is nice.

I can see this being 3-3.5 stars.
