I wasn't entirely sure what this book was about-- I just wanted to read it. Now I see it has some of Piranesi's charm. Something like His Dark Materials perhaps. It's a magical realism, steeped in a profound love of nature, but also something else. Something heavy and haunting.

It has so many different aspects and some characters shine through--- Taryn's bottomless grief and Shift's belief that he's incomplete.
