Too hopeless for me.

I hated Tobacco Road. Didn't even finish it. It was depressing from the start. The characters were extremely unlikable. I understand they were an example of the poor, uneducated strata of society but there was nothing to make me want to empathize with them and I don't know why anyone would want to read about them. Wary of starting the next book in this omnibus.

On to a "A House Divided" and the revolution.

Finished "The Good Earth" and am well into "Sons". Read "The Good Earth" many, many years ago and I remember enjoying it. But this time, I got more out of the story.
So far, in the 2nd book, Wang Lung's sons are not very likeable but I'm curious what they'll get up to.

Interesting. Found it a bit choppy probably due to the fact it wasn't written as one book. OSC seems to follow a pattern with his books; that mankind shouldn't really find all tha answers because it leads to stagnation.
