Ooooh these poor characters. Amber is horrible. Even if it is a mental health problem, it's hard to help someone who doesn't even want help. And I don't like what Justin's mom did either. Justin is mad at his mom and I am too.

Emma is so naive about her mother, it makes me so frustrated with her character. Also, she's kind of just blah. Her friend Maddie is much more mature.

I kneeeew that a cottage in the middle of a lake was going to be a problem. Did Emma really not think this through? Are people this short-sighted in real life?

I'm enjoying this so far but the female narrator isn't quite clicking with me. She sounds too old?

I can't believe I'm saying this but I'm loving this book. It is so much deeper than I thought. This might be a 5-star read for me when I'm done.

This book is a lot darker and depressing than I thought it was going to be, and it is definitely not romantasy. It is dark, Chinese-inspired fantasy. And listening to all this suffering is exhausting and kind of a turn off. I'm still going to finish it, though.

I am bored. Having read the original fanfiction already, I recognize a lot of scenes, so it does feel very much like a re-read, but I don't remember it being this slow.

The FMC's identity is she likes donuts?! She's so bubbly-annoying. If my mother got married 19 times I would be incredibly embarrassed to be even associated with her. And either I'm an old cat lady or I'm reading the wrong books, but why is everyone so young and successful, and SO YOUNG gosh I feel old

What fresh high school drama hell is this?! All of part 1 felt like a bunch of teenagers playing dress up on a boat during prom, complete with gossip and miscommunication and all the repressed feelings. Also - no spoilers - but I didn't like the scene that threatened a 2 year old. It made me feel really, really anxious.
