Fascinating idea - the narrator has had amnesia for several years and sets out to discover who he once was.

Effortless narrative that just sweeps you along.

Already there is Marlowe, 1985 London and Deptford, and an intro page that gives you way too much to think about. Love it.

Love that after 25 pages I have no ideas what's happening.

Reading slowly - there is a lot to take in, lots of characters and lots of time periods.

Also there are 346 pages in the hardback edition.

Just about to start this.

A few days ago I visited Vermeer’s painting ‘Woman in Blue Reading a Letter’ while in Amsterdam. Reading this novel a few days later is the perfect way to round off that experience.

Nice to see a poetry book with pictures as well as words.

What a brilliant first chapter. Perfect start.

I thought this was good at the beginning, but it just keeps getting better and better.
