Pages 51-53 was probably one of the funniest things I’ve read in a book in a long time 🤣🤣🤣

I hate to do this, but I gotta DNF this one for now. I tried giving it the benefit of the doubt for the first 100 pages. The world building is super unique and I really wanted to love this book, but slogging through the writing style and (for me) an unlikable main character is making it tough. The final straw came today when mead was described as “frothy, muddy and bitter tasting.” Just…I’m sorry, but no.

I really wanted to like this book but instead of getting a fun, spooky Halloween romp I’m getting early 2000s TV drama series 😕

Kids from IT: we have one slingshot and a handful of silver slugs to take down an inter dimensional monster

Kids from Summer of Night: *actively plan to raid their parents’ gun cache on the suspicion their teachers are someone involved with the supernatural events going on*

Even though this book is under 200 pages long and I have under 50 pages to go, I can’t muster up the will to finish it. It’s nothing against the author, the subject matter, or the people who enjoy reading it, I just realized that this kind of story isn’t for me. Still love the cover art, though.

I just finished chapter 6 and… woof. I don’t know if I can do this one. It’s not that I dislike the book itself but man, apparently I cannot handle kid-centric horror.

So far the vibe of this book I’m reading is basically this:

So, in short, I am enjoying it very much.

One thing I did not expect when I started reading this book is how much I love the setting. Instead of making Amity Falls this backwater, cult-ish society, Craig does a phenomenal job making me want to live there, which makes what happens to the village and the people who live there just that much more stressful as the story goes on

I wish it wasn’t Sunday or else I’d stay up for the rest of the night reading 😱

Welp that went from “okay that’s sexy 😏” to “I probably shouldn’t read this in public 😳” in about 5 pages 🥵

I think I’m going to have to put this book on the “DNF” shelf. I haven’t even gotten to the enemy part of the enemies-to-lovers part and I’m so bored and uninterested I don’t really care anymore.

In a rare lack of not knowing what to read next, I figured that after almost 30 years (yikes) David Eddings deserves a re-visit. This was one of my first fantasy trilogies and I loved it as a teenager. I hope that love and appreciation only grows as an adult.

Egads, not only do the girls in this book sound and behave like real girls and not just cardboard caricatures , but they actually act like REAL FRIENDS WHO LIKE EACH OTHER. So glad to see the quality in YA fiction finally start to go up. Super enjoying this one so far.

Okay, so I'm surprisingly enjoying this so far. Aside from Jane accepting her identity as a witch a little too quickly, I actually like her character, as well as Malcolm, and I normally detest the handsome, sweep-off-your-feet perfect love interest. I think that it's because so far they both feel like real people. I came into this book expecting some half-assed story but so far have been pleasantly pleased

God I want to throttle Catherine with her own book

So I'm not terribly far into it yet and things may change, but I think anyone who thinks this is a romance novel is reading it wrong
