Is this book supposed to be pseudo-intellectual? Am I supposed to believe the academic main character is a complete and total idiot? Because Alice Law is a fucking idiot. She goes from hearing torture, walking days straight determined to make this suffering mean something, to trying to become a tree. She might be the most unlikeable protagonist I've ever read.

Also, Kuang uses "titillating" twice in one page.

Alice is INSUFFERABLE.

“If I was bullied, traumatized, abused,and sexually assaulted by a loser then I’M a loser.” What the fuck? No girl, you’re a loser because you’re making excuses for a boring, lazy, rape-y, clearly past his prime and decaying in intelligence asshat WHO SEXUALLY ASSAULTED YOU.

So happy half her life got taken in the journey to hell. So annoying. Peter deserves better.
