Paused after a couple chapters because my kindle loan ran out of time.

I love the storyline so far, even when it’s hard to stomach. Unfortunately I fear that the book was perhaps not the most well-researched, since I’ve noticed anachronisms. For example, this book taking place in 1720s New Orleans includes Decatur Street, which is named for a man who wasn’t born until the 1770s. They celebrate Lundi Gras, which started in the late 1800s, and was not named Lundi Gras until the 1980s.

Gift of the Magpie - cute, no complaints.
Crashing into Love - super rushed in the last couple pages. Was it taken from a longer story and had to be drastically cut to be accepted for this set??

I’m noticing some continuity errors. During the course of one fairly short conversation it went from “not noon yet” to “a bright evening.” Also, a detective and a lawyer in two separate scenes said the exact same lines. So, while the story is good (so far,) the editing could be better.

Contingency... skipping it, not a story line I feel like reading about, especially after reading the first chapter as well as some reviews and finding the husband is a complete jerk.

I couldn't get into the first book, Red, and didn't read beyond the first chapter. But I skipped on to Unplanned, which wasn't bad. The third book, The Lady and the Mountain Man, despite the cheesy title, was actually quite well written. So far I'm happy with this freebie.

Bella's father is such an incredible asshole, and nobody will say anything to him about it. I've read several of these books and never before do I remember being SO ANNOYED with the characters.

Ugh. These people are such whiners! I want to smack every one of them. Why do I keep reading this junk? The following are paraphrases, but pretty darn close to the actual wording:

Oh no, our elderly aunt and uncle who cook every single meal for our entire extended family and then some are going on vacation! What will we do? We'll waste away to nothing!

Me? Step foot in the kitchen? But I'm a manly man!

This book is somewhat comical, but it drags. Several of the characters I've met so far are INCREDIBLY rude, and the heroine is a total pushover.

Really strange that the characters don't use contractions while speaking. The main couple, who became engaged in the first chapter after dating for a year, don't seem to know each other at all, and he seems very controlling. I am interested to see where this goes due to the cultural differences with the couple, but... I don't know...

Ugh, I'm having a really hard time liking Evelyn, which stinks because I did like her in the prequel. It's like she's a totally different character.

I have loved several of Camden's books, especially some of the earlier ones... But there are missteps sometimes, with regards to historical accuracy. A pre-1900 character is using tape to attach something to the bottom of her desk drawer, but tape wasn't invented until decades later.

Love the book so far, much better development than in the previous book... But, continuity check: Andy's brother Mark has aged 12 years in a week.

This book has kept me reading way too late into the night for a couple nights now. Sometimes I'm thrown when the POV abruptly shifts from one paragraph to the next, but I guess it's no different than any book with an omniscient narrator.

Enjoying the book, but ugh, here's a discrepancy from the first book that annoys me... In this book William says he hasn't seen Mr. Hammond in many years, but in the first book, William dined at the Hammond's house for his brother's engagement party.

Reading the description of how Elijah kept building onto his house, adding new rooms, porches, and staircases not necessarily leading anywhere... It reminds me of Winchester House, which has always fascinated me.

Apparently she also doesn't know the meaning of "beyond reproach." And this book has gotten laugh out loud ridiculous since about 75% or so.

And... Now they're in a police station, having been released for being "unjustly accused" of something, and they're openly talking about another crime which they actually did commit. I like the heroes/heroines of my books to be smarter than that.

Kindle freebie, reading this as I wait for some library books I've put on hold. Amusing but historically inaccurate. And the author doesn't know the meaning of the expression "short shrift." It's been used incorrectly twice already.

It's not often I take such a thorough dislike to a character in a book. Ellis is a terrible person. I'm not sold on the heroine, Maddie, yet either, but I think she is a product of her upbringing and is redeemable.
