daredtoread is starting Open Season (Joe Pickett, #1)
3.5

Open Season is a solid, grounded start to the series, with its modern western feel and the rural Wyoming setting really carrying the story. The pacing is slow but works, letting the tension build naturally through the setting and characters rather than relying on big twists. It’s atmospheric, easy to sink into, and by the end, I was definitely curious to keep going.

daredtoread is starting The Everlasting
The writing is beautiful, but the constant focus on the time loop made it hard for the story and romance to fully land for me.

daredtoread is starting When I Was You
1.5

A thriller with potential, but the predictable red herrings, tedious characters, and uneven pacing made it hard to stay invested, and some of the twists were honestly so dumb.

daredtoread is starting Lucky Red
A western with potential, but its glamorized tone, uneven plotting, and lack of the gritty authenticity the setting calls for kept it from fully landing for me.

daredtoread is starting Persuasion
A classic with an interesting premise, but the dense conversations, pacing, and constant character chatter made it far more exhausting than engaging.

daredtoread is starting The Quiet Damage: QAnon and the Destruction of the American Family
Heartbreaking and empathetic, this offers a powerful look at how QAnon conspiracies fracture real families and how those left behind struggle to make sense of it all.The alternating, story-by-story structure made it easier to grasp how this kind of thing happens and just how deep the impact runs.

daredtoread is starting King of Ashes
A great blend of crime suspense and thriller, this one hits hard with flawed characters and high stakes that keep you locked in from start to finish. I had to suspend disbelief here and there, but the momentum of the story kept me going.

daredtoread is starting The Witch's Heart
A lyrical and layered reimagining of Norse mythology, blending myth, heart, and fate into a story that feels both timeless and deeply human.

Lots of criticism about pacing, however I felt like it the pacing is steady and deliberate.

Slow burn pays off.

daredtoread is starting Triple Cross (Alex Cross, #30)
A fast-paced but forgettable installment in the Alex Cross series, weighed down by flat characters, formulaic twists, and a lack of emotional depth.

daredtoread is starting Lost Man's Lane
3.5

A nostalgic, atmospheric coming-of-age story with strong writing and character work, though its supernatural threads unravel a bit as the pacing stumbles.

Great writer, trying more books by this author.

I love almost every book by Michael Connelly and this was my least favorite. I will still read everything he writes.
