I keep confusing the characters- especially Catherine, Cathy, and Isabella because Bronte sometimes uses first names, other times last names and in between. The language is tough going at times, but oh the story… fascinating, engaging, infuriating. I’m 1/2 way in and have trouble putting it down.

Rereading this book from my childhood.

Trying to get into it…

Well written, finding the main character irritating which is the point I think.

Wistful, gentle, poetic, wishful…

A bit over my head as I am an American unfamiliar with detailed English history but funny in that droll and sarcastic way that the English do so well. I find Great Britain fascinating as my husband is first generation American and my Grandma’s mother was an English immigrant to America.

DNF- although humorous, it was full of a lot of English references that I just didn’t get. Too
Many books in my to read pile so I moved on.

“Anne was curled up Turk-fashion on the hearth side rug, gazing into that joyous glow where the sunshine of a hundred summers was being distilled from the maple core-wood.” I do not know if all the ‘Anne’ books contain such beautiful descriptions of nature but I am awed by the way Lucy Maud Montgomery puts together words. The story is sweet and engaging but oh, the language.. simply gorgeous!

Intrigued… reminds me a bit of Fried Green Tomatoes…

Fun to read and sweet! Emma Bombeck style

Lots of British urban slang can make this challenging for me. Example: “Burglary, which is defined in law as entering someone’s gaff and nicking stuff,…”

Alternately annoys and interests me. It is long but I am going to finish it.

Main character Lori’s perfect life is a bit annoying but I can’t resist the newest book at the library. For anyone who starts this book, it is very boring at the beginning- too much explanation for those of us who have read the previous 24 books, we already “live” in the village of Finch. However, finally at page 146, a mysterious meeting presents itself and now I need to know the outcome!

Middling- I expected more action.

Charming, agreeable, fun, and books added to my “want to read” list. I especially enjoyed Chapter 10 “Bookworm Problems”. Modern Mrs Darcy seems like a friend even though I have never met her.
