I'm trying to enjoy this, but Ember's naivety and constant lying is making her come off like a teenager which isn't well suited for an adult romance novel.

One thing not touched upon here is the obsession with TikTok regardless of gender (and age). I’m super interested to see what the stats are on that app (and reels, YouTube shorts, etc.) because they seem to have everyone in a chokehold.

So bizarre reading this because he's stating '96 as the birth year for when the anxious generation starts and I'm November '95 with most of my peers born in '96. As someone with siblings between the ages of 12 and 27, I've seen a lot of this played out in real time so I'm intrigued to read more. Also added Meditations by Marcus Aurelius to my tbr.

I think I read somewhere that the author wrote fanfiction before this and maybe that’s why the writing is so stuck on these interpersonal scenes that get us nowhere with the plot. I’m waiting for something more to unfold. Sigh.

Waiting for more of a plot here. Parisa seems to be the odd one out but beyond studying and knowing that one of them is going to get kicked out at the end of the year, they’re not doing much? What else is going to happen?

Okay, it’s definitely overwritten but I’m not hating this. I do find Libby and Nico’s back and forth annoying AF (are they gonna be will they/won’t they or is Nico into his friend Gideon?), but the others aren’t bothering me. I am worried some might be a bit too one-note, but I’ll see as I get farther in.

A lot of info dumping right now and yet I’m still confused by the magic in this story. If Libby grew up in a regular household, how did her university know to pick her for admissions?

I still like this series but the setting changes and time jumps have lost momentum. I can see this being refreshing for some readers because it’s more world building in each installment, but I wish the series had spent more time in foundryside. I’ll see how much I like this one, but a part of me wishes Shorefall had been book 3.
