Okay, so I'm about halfway through, it's a really interesting concept, and I like the characters... but I'm bored?? why is nothing happening

2) Please slow down. He's giving fact after interesting fact I want to explore. Maybe the print version has footnotes or citations. Idk I'll have to look and see

El is seriously so unlikable, and I do not like these random exposition dumps at all. Otherwise this book is interesting.

This has already pissed me off because they felt the need to belittle the science of ethnozoology to uplift ethnobotany. Annoying. Will cut it some slack since it was published in '96

Giving 20 prisoners machetes and expecting them to do prison labor for you, while there are two guards armed only with batons... One of the dumbest ideas I've ever heard. Seriously?

I like this, but I'm also having to somewhat force myself to read it. I'll probably enjoy other Disc1world books more (friend picked this one lol)

Enjoying this much less than the first book. Felicity is insufferable and constantly references her brother... idk, just feels like there is much less depth and enjoyment to be had here

I found this for sale at a used bookstore for a dollar. Definitely worth it. The main character makes decisions that annoy me, but I'm learning a lot about the Akha people which is really cool. Very fascinating, beautiful, and horrifying practices

Honestly I'm pretty irritated with Vasya. I'm judging based on what I want, true, but I really feel like she should be wiser by now. Give a good eye roll everytime she's like "no, that can't be real. No, I don't understand what you're saying so I'm going to lash out like an angry child." Unfortunately, she seems to come across these dilemmas every ten pages or so. Ugh.
