This book is weird in that it is both extremely engaging and a slog at once. I'll see how I feel as I go along.

I was sick last weekend and probably could have made a bunch of progress on my reading challenge...but all I wanted to do was comfort myself by re-reading all my Meg Cabot books

I cannot stress how good this has been so far and how excited I am to see how it all works out but also how sad I will be for it to end because that means there is no more book.

At this point I'm sticking around to see if my suspicion that the Mom was sleeping with Linda. I have a lot to say about Judd and how to handle unlikeable characters and how not to and oh my god can we please get to the story instead of going on another literal and figural masturbatory tangent but all that can wait till I finish the book. If I do end up finishing the book.

Someone please assure me that eventually all the info dumping stops because I want to believe in this book but there are so, so many "as you know, Bob..." instances I'm getting discouraged.

I can't foresee if this book is going to end with some happiness for our main characters or not. It's eating me up but in the best way.

Enjoying it thus far. My one complaint is my own fault: Brontë uses a lot of French in her books. I first read Jane Eyre on paper where they had footnotes to translate. When I listened to the audiobook of Villette, I was constantly frustrated by missing full conversations because there are no footnotes. I should have remembered this before I got an audiobook of Shirley.

As I'm going through I'm seeing some author biases flavor the text that have me rolling my eyes but it does provide a good overview of the lives of these authors so far

This is really good despite some issues I have with his treatment of certain issues and his constant repetition. Almost done with the first audiobook volume (Which covers Book 1 and half of Book 2). I do wonder if he really needed to tell this story in such a long format. If he'd cut out even half of the repetition, it wouldn't have hurt the story.

What a good book. But what a tough book to read even with how pretty and easy the writing is. Butler doesn't pull punches.

A lot of times if I listening to things on audiobook, I become engaged even if Im not crazy about the story. I thought this might be the case because I wasn't too keen on this book at first. But now I am loving it. Hope it keeps up the momentum.
