The fact that the author is such a scummy misogynist and seems kind of proud of it is an absolute turnoff. However, the book’s true protagonists are the wrongly convicted inmates he helps. They deserve to have their stories told and the author’s guilt over his creepy misconduct is what ultimately drives him to take up this cause. The chapters regarding the cases are page turners so I will keep trucking along.

Jana Monroe is a bit of an unreliable narrator. Her rants about Demi Moore were so out of place in this memoir and were mean-spirited. The way she talks about teenagers, especially those of color, is also incredibly off-putting. I’m slowly finishing her book though because even though the author is pretty unlikable, anything related to way the criminal justice system works is endlessly fascinating.
