I learned Pausch the author was positive even though he knew he was going to pass. He's lecturing on what dreams he wanted to achieve. One was playing in the NFL. Although he only played when he was young he said "Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want."

The main character Huck Finn inherits a large sum of money with his friend Tom Sawyer, due to previous events from the book "Adv. of Tom Sawyer". Huck is under current watch of Widow Douglas, who teaches Huck to be civil. One night Huck sneaks out to meet with Tom and his gang of "robbers" who seem to steal for fun. Huck doesn't like the robberies since it's just kids stealing small things like books.

I chose this book because I didn't know which author to pick from the given options. After reading "Calaveras County" in class, it was unique for me to see unorthodox words. After 5 pages of "Huck Finn", I'm enjoying the simple plot combined with the personal thoughts of Finn and antics of his close friend Tom Sawyer.

Who would have known that chemical leavening ingredients from Twinkies were rocks. Phosphate rock, trona, and limestone. Leavening make baked good rise. Without it, a Twinkie would not be a Twinkie. For me, it's hard to picture the origins of a Twinkie beginning from mountain sized mines to becoming a light sponge cake is hard to believe, but in most cases, it is what it is.

Twinkie bakeries use 1 million eggs a year to produce 500 million twinkies. I was intrigued eggs were used not for nutrition but because the eggs act like glue that hold the twinkie together. As far as were those eggs come from, they've already been cracked and dried at factories. I also learned they use egg laying chickens (scrawny, not plump), different from the bigger meat chickens we usually eat.

High Fructose Corn Syrup is cornstarch cooked with enzymes. Some say say eating foods with HFCS is fine, as long as we exercise it off. The reality, no one does. Our HFCS intake has gone higher due to more foods being processed with it such as soda, which is now served in larger proportions. This made me think, we do have the power to change our diets, but will anyone really do it?

Sugar in twinkies isn't just for sweetness. During mixing it tenderizes the cake, mixed with cake flour, it creates a liquid batter. I was also intrigued the fact that twinkies are baked for nine to twelve minutes at around three hundred and fifty degrees Fahrenheit.

So far I am amazed at the facts Ettlinger has discovered. Ingredients such as simple flour to the complexities of adding bleach (chlorine). (Whoaaa.) I've learned that the process and these facilities are very secretive since through using these chemicals, if exposed to the wrong conditions, the factory is capable of exploding due to the mixture of sunlight or heat. These dangers for a twinkie? Wow.

I've read the introduction and the author chose to find out what products like the twinkie are really made of because his six year old daughter asked him what was in ice cream bars they were eating. As a father, he admitted he had no clue. Now he'd find out the original process, even from simple rocks and minerals.

I have yet to get a copy of the book. However I've chosen to read this book because while the cover shows a delectable snack, the title made me wonder what is this sugary treat really made of. With this book breaking down the ingredients, I hope I am not disgusted with what I will find out.

Ender has come a long way and learned new things about his situation. He gets promoted to higher ranks of the armies and becomes commander of one. A key plot device is who's really who. The adults seem to be using the kids for their benefit, making them train and fight each other. I think Ender should coordinate a plan to outsmart the adults usage of the kid armies.

Ender moves to the training facility. Graff wants to "isolate" Ender to unleash his true potential. There are of course other kids at the facility. One bothers Ender to the point where Ender breaks his arm. Factions arise as Ender forms friends with the outcasts of the group while the others are bullies. I wonder if the groups will ever work together because the training is for them to defend their whole planet.

I chose this book as it was another book on the dystopian list. So far, the book introduces Ender, who is really smart even though he is only six. He's also a Third, where in this world, a family with more than two kids is frowned upon. After an incident between him and a bully, through him winning the fight, he's recruited to join Battle School, to fight "Buggers". Ender will train but gives up seeing his family.

So far,I've concluded this book is not for the casual reader,as the author writes beyond the expectations of our society. I was a bit in shock that characters in this book have relations with anyone without emotion, but for fun. Lenina,a "pneumatic" girl seems to move from one lover to the next. I would read more as a character Bernard, sees more in Lenina than just pleasure. Maybe he can break the norm of the world.

Truly this is a dystopian book because of its peculiar and definitive standards of their world. A caste system is used for status, thousands of clones produced from few fertilized eggs. 500 years into the future, what surprised me was that emotion, history, arts, homes, a family were all discouraged and forgotten. The world is now based on society over the individual. A person works for the community, and that's that.

I have yet to pick up a copy of the book, however I've chosen it because after reading some of the plot, dystopian realy is its genre as clones of humans seem to be produced then grouped into systems of Greek letters. This compares to the Hunger Games as the population was grouped socially by Districts.

Mrs. Who then appears and takes them to tesser-time travel. They tesser to a "Black Thing" and find out Meg's Dad is trapped there. They choose to fight it eventually. In contrast to Hunger Games, this story focuses on saving Meg's Dad, instead of themselves.

Charles takes Meg to the woods to find out more about Mrs. Whatsit from their previous encounter. They ended up meeting someone else at the manor, Mrs. Who who quotes in different languages. She says Meg's father needs help, then shoos them to leave. Compared to the Hunger Games, the father to child relationship is evident as Meg's father's been missing for quite a while while Katniss lost hers.

I realized I owned this book but forgot about it,as it was handed down to me as a kid. I felt like reading it because it deals with time bending as well as this book being a classic. I've only read the first chapter and I can only compare the importance of family relationships as the main character Meg has a little sibling Charles, just like Katniss and Prim. I have yet to find out what is dystopian about their world.

Katniss' was able to rid the Careers of their food. Rue however, died after finishing her objective. A significant rule change in the games helps Katniss and Peeta, the last two tributes that survive in the same district win. Through this, both take advantage by showing each other affection, getting them sponsors. All tributes will soon gather for a "feast". I look forward to the rest of the plot and the romance brewing.

Katniss encounters Peeta with the tributes, and feels betrayed. She also struggles buts finds water. Katniss gets attacked by fireballs and narrowly escapes, finding Rue and a deadly wasp nest. She cuts the branch where the nest lies, getting stung in the process. A few careers get stung as well, at the price of hallucinations. I wonder how close Katniss will be to Rue, or if Peeta on the Career's side is temporary.

Training begins, an infuriated Katniss shows her archery skills to the Gamemakers by shooting their roast pig. I wonder how Katniss relationship with Peeta will play out, knowing she's been annoyed by him so far.

A main character Katniss is introduced. The Hunger Games to her family is a means of survival, a cruel way to keep their society in check. Being chosen is randomized, but one may add an extra entry for a year's supply of food. Prim was chosen, but Katniss volunteered. She must fight Peeta, who once gave her bread. I wonder how the fight will play out as Katniss knew Peeta as friend but is now an enemy.
