Gaaah why is this book so annoying. On the surface it’s everything I’d adore. Stupider and stupider things keep happening though. Another review (and the book) mentioned that Opal, who reads like she’s maybe 18 or a dumb 20, is actually 27?!? No! They pay no rent! She works full time! Now there are batshit insane legal things happening (or rather not happening) and I just… it’s too much to overlook.

Did people in 1912 actually write like that? By hand? Uncomfortable pen nibs and precious ink? I will pretend this is not a journal being read, and give the stream of consciousness style the same grace I give to my own wackadoo livejournal posts.

For the love of god look up how to use commas.

Uggggh idk why I thought this wasn’t going to be rape fantasy. And no you don’t need to send me to your damn website just to see if there are triggers. It’s sorta decently written and I want to know the mystery behind the ghosts and the gangs, buuuut I’m gonna just read some spoiler reviews. If she doesn’t murder the shit out of this psycho by the end, I’m out. Back to my feel-good cozy crap, tyvm.

Side note: all the stuff in my ‘currently reading’ list is probably mediocre, it’s a pain to swap it to my DNF list or just remove it. I’m not actually reading 24 books at once. 🫠

Uggggh I need a good library or KU book, stat. Romance, rom-com, fantasy, just something actually engrossing and not terribly written. Usually I fall back on re-reads but I can only read Illona Andrews so many times…

This is a frighteningly accurate portrayal of me in first semester college, minus the fanfic.

Going to shelve this one. It’s interesting but my TBR pile is growing. I want to like the character, but she’s just too peppy.

Why am I so bored with this. 😭 Once I pick it back up it’s interesting but... I don’t really want to pick it up? Just not connecting with any of the characters, POV might be changing too often.

This is the second or third time I’ve gotten stuck on this book. Whhhhhyyyy I love Dresden but kind of hate how everything is going & how unhappy everyone is. Eventually I’ll finish it.

The end of Oathbringer had a lot of very frequent character switching, but it made sense during the final battle scene.
At the beginning of this book I was expecting a slower pace, but the characters are switching so rapidly without any reason. What could have been a single character chapter is divided between four other characters that are unrelated. It’s getting annoying, I don’t need these mini cliffhangers!

I’m so confused by the introduction of a character I’ve never heard of! For several pages they’re acting like I should know the whole back story to the point I looked it up, but he’s not in any previous books. And now I’ve read too much (spoilers! Ugh) I’m assuming they’ll give me some backstory to this guy soon. 😬 Now she’s flashbacking but it’s really sloppy.

The pointing guns at people (allies!) and over the top rudeness portrayed is really bothering me for some reason. I don’t remember this sort of thing from the previous books?

Trying, once again, to read the Wheel of Time series. I had a six week wait list from the library, some finishmyotherbookitis, and finally.... six million interruptions from kids and cats and buying Girl Scout cookies. Wish me luck.

The chapter subheads swap between ‘the prince’ ‘the assassin’ ‘Kaden’ ‘Rafe’ and use given names so rarely that I was completely confused who was who. I looked back to see where I went wrong and it almost seems intentional. Which is really annoying.

Bull = Drummer? Really confused me for a while! Also how did I like Ashford so much in the show but dislike him here... it’s been too long since I watched season 3 so maybe I’m misremembering.

Re-reading this for the first time since it came out. I know it’s an old gripe but wow Edward really is a creepy jerk lol.

I got confused here, since Drummer was a character in the show, and I didn’t see her in the books yet. Also realized I was confusing Anderson Dawes with Ashford. It’s been a while since I watched the show so that doesn’t help. Luckily there’s an in-depth wiki which helped me figure things out.
I’m not enjoying book 3 as much, and I remember not liking these same parts of season 3. Too many characters.

This book also has time jumps. The first prologue and chapter was super confusing but well worth sticking to. Easy to stay up too late reading this, but beware, it’s long!

This had great reviews and recommendations, but I’m having trouble getting into it. The characters just aren’t likeable, and the time jumps are way too frequent.

For some reason I thought this was sort of a self help book. It’s not- just a collection of therapist stories, and mostly entertaining. The patients she focuses on have stories broken and scattered among her own seeking-therapy story. I’m not really clicking with the author.
I’m not in a reading mood lately, and was surprised to only be 31% through, if I don’t finish it, it’s me, not the story.

I’m Sookied out lol. Maybe I’ll pick it back up later.

Ugh why do I keep trying to read this author. I had hopes for this book because it didn’t have the red flag alpha male thing going like the last one I tried. Mostly the dialogue is so stilted... people don’t talk like that in real life. I read enough reviews to get that there’s a heavy twist 3/4 through but honestly I don’t care.

I don’t know why I’m struggling to read this. It’s action packed and has an interesting magic realm, characters are nicely fleshed out and differentiated from each other, the villain has a totally legit agenda. but I’m having trouble connecting to the characters and it feels like a generic fantasy novel. I think my expectations are too high.
